POPPY HANKS is Executive Vice President, Production and Development at MACRO Film Studios—a division of the multi-platform media company MACRO, that represents the voice and perspectives of Black people, indigenous people and people of color.
Her most recent film was TriStar’s One of Them Days starring Keke Palmer and SZA that grossed over $51 million at the box office. Other works she recently produced include A24’s Opus and Lionsgate’s Freaky Tales. She is also a producer on feature films Rock Springs that debuted at Sundance 2026 and Eternal Return that is in post-production.
Hanks is widely known for her work with a vast range of prolific writers and critically-acclaimed directors. She produced Justin Chon’s Blue Bayou, Esteban Arango’s Blast Beat and Alan Yang’s Tigertail; and is a producer on the 2024 Sundance hit Freaky Tales directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. She executive produced Netflix’s Frybread Face and Me, the six-time Academy Award nominated Judas and The Black Messiah directed by Shaka King, Ekwa Msangi’s Farewell Amor, Angel Kristi Williams’ Really Love, Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You; Dan Gilroy’s Roman J. Israel, Esq., Steven Caple Jr.’s The Land; and the multi-Oscar nominated Mudbound, directed by Dee Rees and sold to Netflix out of the Sundance Film Festival as the highest sale of the festival that year. In addition, Hanks was co-executive producer of Denzel Washington’s Fences and Juel Taylor’s They Cloned Tyrone. On the television side, she executive produced HBO’s The Apollo and Netflix’s Raising Dion.
Prior to joining MACRO, Hanks was Senior Vice President for Tyler Perry’s 34th Street Films. During her tenure, she oversaw production on For Colored Girls, and was also part of the team that was instrumental in bringing Precious to the big screen after discovering it at Sundance. Previously, Hanks was Vice President for George Tillman and Bob Teitel’s State Street Pictures. While there, she oversaw development of successful box office standouts Barbershop, Men of Honor and Soul Food.
Hanks received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Screenwriting from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema.
