LAUREN STEIN was named Head of Creative for Sony Pictures Television Studios in November 2023. In the newly created role, Stein oversees drama and comedy development, TriStar Television, international co-productions, and current programming on series in their first year of production.
Stein joined SPT in 2015 as Senior Vice President of Drama Development and was promoted to Executive Vice President of Drama Development in 2017, overseeing the studios world-class drama team. She was instrumental in developing and producing hits such as The Boys, The Good Doctor, The Night Agent, Accused, Goosebumps, and The Wheel of Time, among others. Stein also developed Apple TV+’s latest suspense thriller Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, the upcoming medical drama Doc at FOX, Long Bright River at Peacock starring Amanda Seyfried, Noir at MGM+ and Prime Video, as well as the next project from Vince Gilligan at Apple TV+.
In the past year alone, several of SPT’s series have become worldwide hits, including The Night Agent, which was Netflix’s #1 original series in 2023, Prime Video’s Gen V was the streamers #1 new series in 2023, and Goosebumps, which became Disney Branded Television’s most-watched season premiere of the year.
In her nine years at SPT, Stein has been instrumental in helping the studio build its drama development pipeline and grow and diversify its talent pool. She has brought in a myriad of overall talent deals and expanded the drama team with several accomplished executives.
Stein joined SPT from Chernin Entertainment, where she was Senior Vice President of Drama Development. Prior to Chernin, Stein served as Vice President, Drama Programming at Universal Media Studios. She began her television career at NBC, where she held several roles.
Stein is a Hollywood Radio and Television Society (HRTS) board member.
