Gordon Gray heads Mayhem Pictures, a feature film and television production company with his partner, Mark Ciardi. Based in Santa Monica, California, the company possesses a first-look production deal with Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group.
An avid Lakers fan, Gordon Gray grew up in Southern California’s South Bay area. He attended the University of Southern California, majoring in real estate and finance. As a student, he met Mark Ciardi, and the two developed a friendship, one that included a love for film. The two eventually formed Mayhem Pictures.
Not only has Mayhem been influential in the sports drama genre, their thriving collaboration with Walt Disney Studios continued with the release of The Game Plan, the hit family comedy starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, which opened No. 1 for two consecutive weeks at the domestic box office and grossed nearly $148 million worldwide. They continued their successful collaboration with Dwayne Johnson with the Fox released family comedy Tooth Fairy, which has to date grossed $112 million worldwide. Mayhem is about to start our third film with Dwayne Johnson this December, an independent action film with IM Global called Protection.
Since Mayhem Pictures founding, Ciardi and Gray have accrued a successful track record – both in terms of box office earnings and critical acclaim – and are now considered among Hollywood’s preeminent producers. Some of their films include Disney’s The Rookie, Miracle, Invincible, and Secretariat. Most recently, Gray and Ciardi were inducted as members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
