May 16, 2011 - ProShow Top 10 Winners Announced

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 16, 2011) – The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today the ten winning film projects of the 2011 PGA Producers Showcase (ProShow) competition, taking place in conjunction with the third annual Produced By Conference (PBC) in association with AFCI Locations on June 3-5, 2011 at The Walt Disney Studios. The goal of ProShow film project competition, which was developed by the PGA’s International Committee, is to help film producers initiate business relationships, co-develop compelling projects and spearhead investment involving the producing community, a panel of financiers, as well as local and international film commissions.

The ProShow winners will receive free admission to this year’s PBC in association with AFCI Locations where they will participate in an exclusive marketplace for their projects, involving one-on-one meetings with producers, studios and production companies, Hollywood financiers, and film commissions. Hollywood financiers confirmed to participate include Crystal Sky Pictures, Essential Entertainment, Lakeshore Entertainment, Morgan Creek Productions, Nala Films, Valhalla Entertainment, Vendome and Voltage, among others.

The 2011 ProShow accepted submissions for both international and domestic projects. The distinguished winning projects (and producers) of the 2011 ProShow competition, listed alphabetically include:

• HIGHWAYS TO WAR – Naomi Wenck  (New South Wales, Australia)
• SABLE ISLAND RADIO – Christopher Zimmer (Nova Scotia, Canada)
• SIGHTINGS - 3D – Sean Hoessli (USA)
• SPAIN IN FLAMES – Pepe Flores Caballer (Spain)
• THE CALLING – Sung-Cheol Sean Kim (Korea)
• THE SECRET RIVER – Stephen Luby (Victoria, Australia)
• WHERE DID WENDI GO – Trevor Richardson (USA)

“Our decision to expand the ProShow to domestic, as well as international talent brought an even broader scope of stories to the competition this year,” said Stu Levy, co-chair of the PGA’s International Committee and chair of the PGA Producers Showcase. “With the AFCI Locations show now a part of this year’s PBC, the winners will have the rare chance to network with an extraordinarily exclusive group of individuals to co-develop their projects and find funding. I’m excited to see what the future holds for the winners.”

The Producers Showcase is the brainchild of Stu Levy (PRIEST, VAN VON HUNTER) and PBC co-chair, Marshall Herskovitz (LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS, BLOOD DIAMOND, “thirtysomething”). The competition’s submission and review process was directed by International Committee co-chair William Stuart (THE ROCK, HOLY MATRIMONY) and managed by producer Shari Hamrick. The winning projects were selected by a panel of prominent Producers Guild members including Donald De Line (GREEN LANTERN, I LOVE YOU, MAN, THE ITALIAN JOB), David Friendly (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE), Richard Gladstein (PULP FICTION, THE BOURNE IDENTITY), Gary Goetzman (WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, MAMMA MIA!), Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead,” THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE TERMINATOR Trilogy), Gary Lucchesi (MILLION DOLLAR BABY, UNDERWORLD Franchise), Lydia Dean Pilcher (YOU DON’T KNOW JACK, AMELIA), Cathy Schulman (CRASH, THE ILLUSIONIST), Lauren Shuler Donner (X-MEN Franchise, FREE WILLY I, II, III), William Stuart (THE ROCK, EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS), Paula Wagner (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE I, II, III; VANILLA SKY) and Paula Weinstein (BLOOD DIAMOND, THE PERFECT STORM), among others. The evaluation process included review of the applicant’s treatment and script or breakdown, along with their resume of work and any existing financing and/or talent involvement.
