Mark Johnson won the Best Picture Academy Award for Barry Levinson’s poignant 1988 drama Rain Man, starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, one of many films Johnson made with Levinson during a twelve-year span.
In his successful partnership with Barry Levinson, Johnson produced all of the writer-director’s films from 1982-1994. In addition to Rain Man, their diverse slate of acclaimed features includes Good Morning Vietnam, The Natural, Tin Men, Toys, Young Sherlock Holmes, Avalon, Diner and Bugsy, nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
His recent slate of motion pictures includes The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian both directed by Andrew Adamson; Nick Cassavetes’ dramas My Sister’s Keeper and The Notebook; the sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest directed by Dean Parisot; The Rookie directed by John Lee Hancock; Mike Newell’s gangster drama Donnie Brasco; and Clint Eastwood’s A Perfect World.
Johnson is currently in post-production on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which will be released on December 10th of this year. He also produced with Guillermo del Toro the upcoming Miramax horror film Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark starring Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce. He is the executive producer of the Emmy nominated AMC drama Breaking Bad.
Johnson also serves as the Chair of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Foreign Language Film Award Committee and as a Governor for the Producers’ Branch.
